Health Awareness Program for Staff of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau Abuja
D’Bio Wellness and Selfcare in conjunction with Lusong QSE Ltd conducts health awareness program for staff of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau Abuja
Abuja, May 14, 2025 – The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) Ultra-ModernAuditorium hosted a one-day training program on “Selfcare as a Foundation for Health and Wellness.

Health Awareness Program
The program featured presentations by facilitators on Mental Health, Nutrition and Selfcare.  The team was led by Dr. Monica Hemben Eimunjeze FPSN, convener of D’Bio Wellness and Selfcare summit. Other facilitators were Dr. Olajumoke Koyejo a Consultant Psychiatrist and Ms Obianuju Chukuwuemeka, a registered Dietitian – Nutritionist.
The objectives of the training were to equip NSIB staff with essential skills and knowledge. These include understanding of the role and importance of selfcare, the need to prioritise their mental health and the contribution of a healthy diet to their general wellbeing.
The presentation on mental health noted that a national survey conducted by the Federal Ministry of Health in Nigeria in collaboration with the World Health organization, and that prevalence of mental disorders in Nigeria was estimated to be 20-30% of the population (WHO, 2022).
The presentation also stated that mental disorders start from simple complaints such as poor sleep, poor appetite, crawling sensation suspiciousness, undue irritability to full blown psychotic symptoms causing impaired functioning, psychosocial disabilities, and other significant distress or impairment in functioning.
The prevention of workplace induced mental disorders was explained to include organisational interventions to reshape working conditions, cultures and relationships. These interventions include management of excessive workload, role clarity, communication, job insecurity and recognition or reward for excellence.Â

Discussions around protective factors for work – life balance ensued during the program.
The presentation on selfcare highlighted the importance of embracing the 7 pillars of selfcare as advocated by the International Selfcare Foundation which include knowledge and health literacy, mental wellbeing, physical activities, healthy eating, risk avoidance, good hygiene and rational use of products and services. The impact of embracing selfcare on health was reiterated and participants were encouraged to intentional, consistent and set goals in this area.
Dr. Eimunjeze and her team shared valuable insights on self-care practices, mental health, and nutrition, empowering participants to take control of their overall wellness.

The Director general / CEO of Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau, Alex Badeh Jr represented by the General Manager Planning, Research and Statistics, Mrs Maryam Shekonireiterated the importance of the welfare of all staff and noted the commitment of the management of the Bureau to prioritise staff wellbeing. She appreciated the facilitators for doing justice to the topics and conducting an enlightening and impactful program.
Participants were drawn from different units of the Bureau in Abuja.
