Nigeria’s self-care movement sparks nationwide health transformation at D’Bio summit
The second edition of the D’Bio Wellness & Self-Care Summit has ignited a powerful wave of change across Nigeria’s health landscape. Held on September 24, 2025, at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the event united industry leaders, community figures, and young Nigerians to declare: it’s time to prioritize self-care as the key to a healthier nation.
Under the inspiring theme, “Self-Care as a Driver of Optimal Health and Wellness,” the summit aimed to challenge perceptions and motivate action amidst Nigeria’s pressing health challenges. With a doctor-to-patient ratio of 1:10,000 and rising healthcare costs, experts emphasize that self-care isn’t optional—it’s essential for Nigeria’s health future.
Dr. Monica Hemben Eimunjeze, the summit’s convener, energized the audience with a compelling message: “Self-care isn’t just for healthcare workers—it’s for everyone!” She called for increased health literacy and proactive engagement, urging Nigerians to take responsibility for their well-being before health issues escalate. Her words underscored a vital truth: health is a personal duty, not just a professional one.
Pharm. Friday Enaholo of Fidson emphasized self-love as the cornerstone of wellness: “Prioritize yourself, and your health will follow,” he said, reminding all that true health begins from within.
A powerful keynote by Dr. Victor ‘Gbenga Afolabi, CEO of Hazon Holdings, delivered a stark warning: Nigeria must adopt self-care or face a looming healthcare crisis. “Self-care is our first line of defense,” he asserted, highlighting the urgent need for community-driven strategies to combat non-communicable diseases like hypertension and diabetes and to ease the strain on hospitals nationwide.
Beyond discussions, the summit showcased innovation through a vibrant exhibition of health products from brands like Fidson, Neimeth, and Greenlife Pharmaceuticals. Attendees explored tools—from supplements to health gadgets—that empower Nigerians to take control of their health journey.
Support poured in from high-level officials, including representatives from the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Nigeria Airforce Wives Association, underscoring a unified commitment to a healthier Nigeria. Their messages reinforced the idea that collective action can make wellness accessible, sustainable, and rooted in individual responsibility.
This summit proved a vital point: when Nigerians embrace self-care, the nation’s health outcomes will improve dramatically. It’s a call to individuals, communities, and policymakers alike—to work together in building a future where wellness is a personal, accessible, and shared goal.
